COVID-19: The Current State of the Science
The SARS-CoV-2 virus has spread around the globe at an alarming rate and continues to spiral out of control in many countries, especially in the west. The global catastrophe has led to an “all-hands-on-deck” collaborative effort across the scientific community with an unprecedented number of researchers now working, at a never-before seen pace, to understand, disarm, and defend the world against this virus. During this two-day symposium, hosted by Cell Press and Alibaba Health, we will hear from several top coronavirus researchers, many of whom work in China, who have been at the vanguard of SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19 research. We will also hear from researchers who are new to coronaviruses but have already made impactful contributions to our understanding of the pandemic. Each day will consist of a morning session followed by a panel discussion and an afternoon session that will end with a keynote address. Topics covered will include the origin and evolution of SARS-CoV-2, the molecular and structural biology of the virus, host responses, viral pathogenesis, and the development of therapeutic and vaccine countermeasures.
